This article is inspired by “Research In Art and Design” by Christopher Frayling (1993). This paper personally helped me to understand how the right terminology could enable me to think and communicate more clearly about a subject.
Design of AI
The act of designing a AI solution. It could be designing a product such as chatGPT where the AI is centerstage or something like Spotify where AI is backstage. How should the AI work in order to provide the best user experience and how should users be able to interact with the AI?
Design with AI
The act of using AI tools in the design processs. It could be utilize one or more AI tools in the design process and design activities designers allready know and use.
Design for AI
The act of designing solutions that can be used by AI. As designers we are used to work with user journeys and user experience. Traditionally we have seen the user as a human. If people begins to use AI to interact with digital products, then designers should consider how the products works for an AI.
